PITT OHIO Relocates Norristown, PA Terminal

Pittsburgh, PA (December 10th, 2014) - PITT OHIO relocated its Norristown, PA terminal to a new, larger facility to meet rising demand in the Philadelphia region.

The new complex is nearly 30% larger and covers over 27,000 square feet, and employs 120 employees within the office, terminal and mechanic shop. The terminal building includes 66 dock doors, increasing capacity by over 33% than its previous location.

The new facility is equipped to align with PITT OHIO’s commitment to a sustainable culture, and includes many updated energy efficient features.

The terminal is located on over 20 acres, a three-time increase, at 541 Hollow Road in Phoenixville and is one of seven PITT OHIO terminals in Pennsylvania. PITT OHIO has maintained a presence in the Philadelphia market for nearly 35 years

PITT OHIO’s Uriah to Serve on Research Advisory Committee

Pittsburgh, PA (December 10th, 2014) - PITT OHIO announced today the appointment of Ron Uriah to The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) 2015-2016 Research Advisory Committee (RAC). With over 34 years of experience in the transportation industry, Uriah now serves as PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Risk Management Compliance and Government Affairs.

PITT OHIO Honored with Fleet Safety Awards by the American Trucking Association

PITT OHIO announced today that it has been honored with three Fleet Safety Awards from the American Trucking Association (ATA) as well as two at the State Level in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The ATA presented PITT OHIO with First Place Line haul, Third Place Local/LTL and First Place Industrial Safety. PITT OHIO received First Place honors in the Large Division in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

PITT OHIO driver, Mike Miltenberger, from the company’s Baltimore, Maryland terminal placed first place at the Truck Driving Championships and received the Overall Grand Champion Award for receiving the highest score among all competitors.

PITT OHIO expects the best from its drivers and several received Driver of the Month recognition at the state level for their commitment to safe practices on the highway:

West Virginia - Paul Norman

Additionally, Paul Norman received the West Virginia Driver of the Year award at the West Virginia Truck Driving Championships Awards banquet on June 21, 2014. Driver of the Year is determined by the state police after reviewing the winners from all 12 months.

PITT OHIO Receives President Trophy from Ohio Trucking Association

PITT OHIO announced today that they have been awarded the Ohio Trucking Association (OTA) President’s Trophy. The award is recognized as being the highest safety award presented by all carriers that are members of Ohio Trucking Association.

The President’s Trophy is presented by OTA and their Safety Management Council to one carrier in Ohio with the lowest accident frequency.

PITT OHIO Salutes Veterans

Pittsburgh, PA (November 7th, 2014) - On November 11, PITT OHIO and its employees will pause to honor the veterans and members of the U.S. military who sacrifice to serve their country and protect our freedoms.

PITT OHIO has supported military service members and veterans since its opening in 1979. Today the Company employs more than is 226 veterans, about 7.5% of its workforce, working in a variety of roles across its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. A number PITT OHIO plans to increase.

Brad Caven, Vice President of Operations, said, "We are proud and honored to have so many men and women working at PITT OHIO that have served, or are serving, with courage and distinction. We are so grateful for the sacrifices that all of our veterans and their family have made and want to acknowledge and thank all of them for their service. Dockworker at the West Middlesex terminal Tom Shimmin, said, "I´ve always wanted to serve in the military ever since I was a kid. I would never change my service experience and I have no regrets in enlisting. I learned many life lessons which in turn made me a better person. PITT OHIO is the only employer I’ve worked for that asked me if I was a veteran. I think it’s great that PITT OHIO is acknowledging its veterans for serving our great nation."

Moving forward, PITT OHIO will increase its efforts and programs to recruit, develop and retain our nation's heroes to help build its business.

PITT OHIO´s support of the military goes beyond the company´s Veterans Day celebration. Earlier this year, Jonathan Pauley, a driver from the company´s Battle Creek terminal, nominated his Terminal Manager Robert Wittlinger for the "Patriotic Employer" award presented by the Office of the Secretary of Defense Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). Pauley said, "I take great pride in being a military veteran and feel blessed to be a part of a company like PITT OHIO, which supports military veterans not only on Veterans Day but every day throughout the year. As a veteran, the best support you could give is to take a second, even just one, and look at the flag and say ´Thanks.´ It means a lot to those of us who are currently serving, to those who have served, and to all the families who are silently serving behind our men and women."

After receiving his award, Wittlinger said, "I am honored to have veterans working here at Pitt Ohio. They have put their lives and the lives of their families on hold to protect and serve our country so that we may live free. We are proud to have such good men and woman working beside and with us."

US Cargo, a carrier within PITT OHIO´s GROUND service network will also participate on November 11. As a way to remember and honor our nation´s veterans and those who continue to serve, magnetic flags with the words "Proud to Honor Our Veterans and All Who Serve," provided by history.com, will be applied to the doors of power units across the enterprise. Regional LTL, TRUCKLOAD and National LTL receive honor

Pittsburgh, PA (August 6th, 2014) - PITT OHIO wins Logistics Management Magazine’s Quest for Quality Award in three categories, including Regional Less-Than-Truckload Northeast, Truckload and National LTL with The Reliance Network.

For the twentieth time, PITT OHIO has earned a spot in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regional LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) category. The results, according to the magazine, align with what many analysts believe to be true – that the top regional carriers like PITT OHIO have done the best job over the past 12 months of maintaining top service levels. 2014 marks the ninth year in a row that PITT OHIO has earned a spot on the regional LTL Quest for Quality list.

For the second year in a row, ECM TRANSPORT, PITT OHIO’s Truckload carrier received an award, placing third among eleven other carriers. According to the magazine, Logistics Management readers confirm that Truckload carriers on the Quest for Quality list, like ECM TRANSPORT, continue to offer top service despite mounting operational pressures

For the first time, a network of LTL regional carriers, The Reliance Network (TRNet) won a national LTL Quest for Quality award. The Reliance Network posted the top score for Value in this transportation category. According to the magazine, the long-haul LTL’s on the list like The Reliance Network are doing a stellar job of juggling the challenges while maintaining world-class service levels.

PITT OHIO Opens New Terminal in Chicago, Illinois

Pittsburgh, PA (August 6th, 2014) - PITT OHIO relocated its Chicago terminal to a larger facility to meet rising demand in the Illinois region

The newly constructed complex covers over 37,000 square feet, a 75% increase in space from its previous location, most notably in the mechanic shop area. The terminal employs more than 105 employees within the office, terminal and mechanic shop and will now operate from 55 dock doors, 2 more than its previous location.

PITT OHIO Builds New Terminal in Cincinnati, Ohio

Pittsburgh, PA (August 5th, 2014) - PITT OHIO relocated its Cincinnati terminal to a new, larger facility to meet rising demand in the Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky region.

The newly constructed complex covers over 40,000 square feet, more than doubling the size of its previous location, and employs 135 employees within the office, terminal and mechanic shop. The terminal building includes 71 dock doors, 30 more than its previous location.

The new facility is equipped to align with PITT OHIO’s commitment to a sustainable culture, and includes:

Low VOC finishes for a better indoor air quality
Water efficient toilets and sinks Approximately 30+% of the materials used in construction were from recycled products
Approximately 40+% of the materials used in construction were harvested, extracted, and assembled local to the region
Over 80% of the construction waste has been sent to a recycling facility; diverted from a landfill.
Recycling service will be offered to building occupants
The building energy systems have been commissioned by a third party engineer to maximize their efficiency

PITT OHIO Drivers to Compete at the 2014 ATA National Truck Driving Championships

Pittsburgh, PA (July 18th, 2014) - Three drivers representing PITT OHIO placed among the top finishers at the 2014 State Truck Driving Championships in Ohio, Maryland and Pennsylvania and will represent the company at the National competition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania August 13-16. A total of 21 PITT OHIO drivers competed at the state championships throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia. Twelve PITT OHIO drivers earned first, second and third place trophies in their respective state competitions.

Ohio State Championships

Erik Johnson, from the company’s Cincinnati terminal, earned the first place finish in the Straight Truck Class Competition. This will be Erik’s first appearance at the National Competition.
Jeff Pentrack, from the company’s Columbus terminal, finished in second place in the 4-Axle Class Competition.
Michael Jackson, from the company’s Columbus terminal finished in third place in the 5-Axle Class Competition.
Phil Gammella, from the company’s Cleveland terminal, finished in third place in the Flatbed Class Competition.

Maryland State Championships

Michael Miltenberger, from the company’s Cumberland terminal, finished in first place in the 5-Axle Competition and earned the Overall Grand Champion Award. This will be Michael’s second appearance at the National Competition.
Chris Miller, from the company’s Baltimore terminal, finished in second place in the 4-Axle Class Competition.
David Winebrenner, a driver from the company’s Cumberland terminal, earned a third place finish in the Straight Truck Class Competition.

Pennsylvania State Championships

Robert Kircher, from the company’s Harrisburg terminal, finished in first place in the Straight Truck Class Competition. This is Robert’s second appearance at the National Competition.
Tom Yerkes, from the company’s Hazleton terminal, earned a third place finish in the Straight Truck Class Competition.
Jason Kise, from the company’s Harrisburg terminal, earned a third place finish in the 4-Axle Class Competition.

The Truck Driving Championships is an opportunity for professional truck drivers to demonstrate their driving skills and safety expertise. The event includes a difficult driving-skills challenge, pre-trip inspection and written examination covering vehicle operation and knowledge of federal safety regulations.

PITT OHIO Named the Grainger 2013 Carrier of the Year

PITT OHIO‚ a transportation solutions provider, has been named the Grainger 2013 Carrier of the Year. PITT OHIO was presented with the Partners in Performance Award at Grainger’s annual supplier conference held recently in Rosemont, Illinois.

Grainger's Partners in Performance Award recognizes suppliers who achieve excellence in several categories, including on-time shipping, responsiveness, cost effectiveness, and product quality. Suppliers are rated throughout the year, and judged on their overall performance and improvement.

Grainger´s Partners in Performance Award recognizes suppliers who achieve excellence in several categories, including responsiveness, information integrity, on time shipping and variability, management commitment and order fulfillment. Grainger suppliers receive ratings throughout the year for their performance in each of these categories. Out of Grainger’s 3,500 suppliers, less than 1 percent are chosen to receive these annual awards.

PITT OHIO Releases 2013 Sustainability Report

Pittsburgh, PA (March 21st, 2014) - PITT OHIO released its 2013 Sustainability Report today highlighting the company’s efforts to lower its environmental impact, find efficient transportation solutions for its customers, be a good corporate and community citizen, and support its employees.

PITT OHIO is committed to doing its best to achieve environmental and social responsibility. Using the three-tiered approach, “People, Planet and Profit,” PITT OHIO operates in a balanced way that reduces its impact on the planet, supports the community and ensures the future of the organization.

The Alliance awards program, now in its second year, recognizes excellence in supply chain performance resulting from the close cooperation and collaboration of supply chain partners. Awarded in five distinct categories, The Alliance looks at more than the outcome of the supply chain partnerships; it also examines the dynamic partnerships that were formed to drive results. A panel of distinguished judges examined the role of each of the partners and the contributions their individual and collective efforts made to solving a supply chain problem or driving change and continuous improvement in a supply chain.

Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Geoff Muessig, said "In 2013 PITT OHIO succeeded in reducing it carbon footprint by 1.4 % as measured on a per shipment basis. In 2014 PITT OHIO will continue to advance our People, Planet, Profit sustainability strategy to create a competitive advantage for our customers and our company."

Highlights of the report are detailed below.

PITT OHIO reduced its normalized carbon output by 1.4% over 2012 levels through improved fleet MPG and reducing our electricity by almost half a percent.
PITT OHIO partnered with MACK to pilot CNG vehicles that run clean while having the power to move freight efficiently.
PITT OHIO continued construction of its LEED Certified Gold facility in Harmarville, Pennsylvania which has been recognized for its innovative use of direct, rather than alternating, current.
PITT OHIO continued to install best in class solutions at our legacy buildings to find efficiencies, including solar panels at our East Windsor facility making it one of 300 energy neutral sites in the country. Because of electronic invoicing and leveraging Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) software, our paper usage per shipment went down 2.8%, which saved approximately 55 trees.
PITT OHIO continued to share data from our carbon calculator to help customers understand their Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
PITT OHIO employees continued to be the company’s top priority as demonstrated by its competitive wages, best in industry benefits, a wellness program, training programs, and an award-winning safety department. The company was recently recognized as one of Pittsburgh’s Top Places to Work for the third year in a row.
PITT OHIO’s employees supported the community by contributing over $71,000 to Autism Speaks, The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
PITT OHIO received the Heinz Endowments’ first Breathe Award, as well as Supply and Demand Chain Executive Award 2013 Green Award Recipient. We participate with Sustainable Pittsburgh and qualified at Challenger level for Sustainable Pittsburgh’s Business Compact.
PITT OHIO posted strong financial results which will enable the company to invest in rolling stock and infrastructure in 2014.

TRNet Carriers and Customer Toshiba win Alliance Award

World Trade 100 magazine a leading transportation industry publication, and SMC³, an industry trade association, have awarded PITT OHIO, its TRNet affiliate Averitt Express and customer Toshiba with an Alliance Award in the Domestic Freight Single Mode category.

PITT OHIO and Averitt developed a Shipment Consolidation and Pool Distribution Program in an effort to reduce damage claims for customer Toshiba. In addition to reducing damages by over 50%, the collaborative solution resulted in a 15 percent overall cost savings and increased delivery efficiency. The solution also reduced diesel fuel by 125,000 gallons which equates to a reduction of carbon dioxide by approximately 1,099 tons.
