PITT OHIO Salutes Veterans

Pittsburgh, PA (November 8th, 2013) - PITT OHIO and its employees will pause to honor the veterans and members of the U.S. military who sacrifice to serve their country and protect our freedoms.

PITT OHIO has supported military service members and veterans since its opening in 1979. Today the Company employs more than 210 veterans, about 8% of its workforce, working in a variety of roles across its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. A number PITT OHIO hopes to increase. "Our company is as strong as the workforce we employ," saidChuck Hammel, President of PITT OHIO. "Members of the military have a well-earned reputation for leadership, teamwork, accountability and discipline. We look for this type of work ethic and commitment in our employees."

Mike Todd, Veteran Military Police Officer in the Army and Terminal Manager at the company´s Cleveland terminal, said, "I am very proud to be a military veteran and it is an honor to work for such a great company that supports military service men and women. Dave Powell, a dockworker at the time, was deployed to Iraq in 2008. "PITT OHIO was very supportive when I was deployed with the Army," Powell, Veteran and now Manager of Employee Development & Retention at PITT OHIO, said. "During this difficult time, PITT OHIO did everything possible to make the transition as easy as possible for my family and me. Upon returning home, PITT OHIO allowed me the opportunity to not only return to my position as a dockworker, but move up within in the company as well. PITT OHIO is a great place for veterans to work."

ECM TRANSPORT, the carrier powering PITT OHIO’s TRUCKLOAD service and US Cargo, a carrier within PITT OHIO´s GROUND service network will also participate on November 11. As a way to remember and honor our nation’s veterans and those who continue to serve, magnetic flags with the words "Proud to Honor Our Veterans and All Who Serve" will be applied to the doors of the power units in the entire enterprise including PITT OHIO’s 710 tractors, 369 straight trucks, and 37 sprinter vans, ECM TRANSPORT´s 239 tractors and US Cargo´s vehicles. A flag lapel pin will also be provided to each employee.

PITT OHIO Wins Breathe Award

Pittsburgh, PA (August 30th, 2013) - PITT OHIO received one of the first Breathe Awards honoring work to improve the region’s air quality. PITT OHIO accepted the award from The Breathe Project during a ceremony at the Hill House Association on September 5.

PITT OHIO has demonstrated commitment to improving our air quality by operating a modern, well-maintained fleet of trucks, tractor trailers and vans; leveraging on-board computers to measure MPG (miles per gallon) per truck, terminal and region; requiring progressive and proper shifting and speed management; instituting anti-idling policies; retrofitting company facilities to reduce energy and water consumption; and participating in the Pittsburgh Green Workplace Challenge and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partner program to reduce air pollution in freight delivery.

Breathe Project is a coalition of residents, businesses, and organizations working together to improve air quality in the Pittsburgh region for the health and economy.

Daniel Wolovich Joins PITT OHIO Sales Team

Pittsburgh, PA (August 15th, 2013) - PITT OHIO, is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Daniel Wolovich as an Enterprise Sales Executive.

Wolovich has over 36 years experience in the transportation industry working in a wide range of sales and operations positions. In 2012, Wolovich retired from Vitran Express after 22 years of service where he most recently served as Senior Vice President of Sales.

PITT OHIO Drivers to Compete at the 2013 ATA National Truck Driving Championships

Pittsburgh, PA (July 10th, 2013) - Four drivers representing PITT OHIO placed among the top finishers at the 2013 State Truck Driving Championships in Ohio and West Virginia and will represent the company at the National competition in Salt Lake City, Utah August 20-24.

Richie Bowman, a driver from the company´s Columbus terminal, earned the first place finish in the Straight Truck Class at the Ohio State Championship.
Eric Johnson, a driver from the company’s Cincinnati location, earned third place in the Straight Truck Class competition at the Ohio State Championship.
Charles Randolph, straight truck driver at the Company’s Charleston terminal, earned the top spot at the West Virginia State Championship. This is Randolph´s second appearance at the National Competition
Paul Norman from the company´s Charleston terminal placed first in the Flatbed Class competition in West Virginia and will represent PITT OHIO at the National Competition for third time and 2nd year in a row.
Nick Backes, a driver from the company’s Charleston terminal, earned the first place finish in the 4-Axle Class at the West Virginia State Championship and will represent PITT OHIO at the National Competition.

Pittsburgh, PA (June 13, 2013) - The Transportation Marketing and Sales Association (TMSA), the leading organization dedicated to advancing the success of marketing and sales professionals in all transportation modes, has announced the winners of its 61st Annual Compass Awards program. PITT OHIO, received two Compass Awards in the categories of Direct Marketing Campaign and Web-Based Marketing & Sales at the annual awards gala held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida earlier this week.

Compass Awards honor individual companies in the transportation and logistics industry for their commitment to raising the standards for best marketing and sales practices. PITT OHIO Receives President’s Trophy from Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association

Pittsburgh, PA (May 28, 2013) - PITT OHIO announced today that they have been awarded the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association (PMTA) President’s Trophy. The award is recognized as being the highest safety award presented by all carriers that are members of Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association.

The President´s Trophy is presented by PMTA and its Safety Management Council to one carrier in Pennsylvania with the lowest accident frequency.

PITT OHIO´s Vice President of Safety and Risk Management, Ron Uriah, was honored to compete for the Presiden´s Trophy with the best motor carriers in the state. "This is an outstanding achievement from our employees" Uriah said. "We appreciate the dedication and focus to highway safety that our drivers show throughout the year while performing their daily assignment as professional drivers working in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions. We also appreciate the dedication of our Senior Driver Trainers and the excellent equipment provided by our fleet service technicians. Radicic has over six years of experience in the area of health and wellness. In his last role as Coordinator of Work Strategies Services, he was responsible for injury prevention and wellness programs at several locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia.

Shawn Galloway has been promoted from Pricing Analyst to Supervisor of Rates and Traffic Systems. Galloway has been with PITT OHIO since 1996. Between them they have 36 years of transportation pricing experience.

PITT OHIO Releases 2012 Sustainability Report

Pittsburgh, PA (January 23, 2013) - PITT OHIO, released its 2012 Sustainability Report today highlighting the company’s efforts to lower its environmental impact, find efficient transportation solutions for its customers, be a good corporate and community citizen, and support its employees.

PITT OHIO is committed to doing its best to achieve environmental and social responsibility. Using the three-tiered approach, "People, Planet and Profit," PITT OHIO operates in a balanced way that reduces its impact on the planet, supports the community and ensures the future of the organization.

Chief Marketing Office and Executive Vice President, Geoff Muessig, said, "PITT OHIO plans to use its sustainability strategy to build a competitive advantage for our customers while continuing to enhance our reputation for innovation. PITT OHIO is the first regional LTL carrier to deliver a Carbon Footprint Calculator that allows LTL shippers to measure the carbon output that is associated with the distribution of their products in our network." PITT OHIO´s carbon footprint calculator measures greenhouse gas emissions at the shipment detail level.

Highlights of the report are detailed below:

PITT OHIO reduced its carbon output by 3.0% over 2011 levels through improved fleet MPG and reduced utility usage at our facilities.
PITT OHIO created a cross-functional sustainability team and invested in innovative solutions to improve its energy usage and reduce its carbon footprint.
PITT OHIO hosted two Customer Advisory meetings focusing on sustainability and transportation issues.
PITT OHIO employees continued to be the company's top priority as demonstrated by its competitive wages, best in industry benefits, a wellness program, training programs, and an award-winning safety department. The company was recently recognized as one of Pittsburgh's Top Places to Work for the second year in a row.
PITT OHIO's employees supported the community by contributing over $61,000 to Autism Speaks,The Boys & Girls Clubs of America and The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The company received the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Western Pennsylvania 2012 National Philanthropy Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization.
PITT OHIO posted strong financial results which will enable the company to invest $40 million in rolling stock and infrastructure in 2013.
