PITT OHIO Receives US EPA 2017 SmartWay® Excellence Award

PITT OHIO was honored with a SmartWay^® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. PITT OHIO reduced carbon emissions per shipment, added 9 more compressed natural gas (CNG) tractors to its fleet for a total of 29 and added energy efficient trailer skirts to their entire trailer pool.

Director of Sustainability and BICC, Justine Russo said, “With our 180 rooftop solar panels and WindStax™ wind turbine at our Pittsburgh terminal, we estimate that 180-200 kWh/day is being generated from renewable energy sources. We are excited by the future of renewable energy and look to further prove out this concept with upcoming construction products.”

PITT OHIO invests in the planet by committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a per shipment basis while growing its business. PITT OHIO leverages sustainability initiatives to take cost out of the operation by boosting its fleet’s MPG performance and efficiency and improved MPG performance significantly lowers the company’s operating expense.

PITT OHIO NAMED TOP WORKPLACE

The Quest for Quality Awards are the gold standard for customer satisfaction and performance excellence for carriers, ports, and logistics providers worldwide.

Logistics Management’s (LM) Annual Quest for Quality Awards is the culmination of a six-month research project conducted by Peerless Research Group (PRG). PITT OHIO Named Carrier of the Year by GEODIS

PITT OHIO was selected as the 2017 Carrier of the Year for the first time by GEODIS. GEODIS is a top-rated, global supply chain operator recognized for a passion and commitment to helping clients overcome their logistical constraints. After acquiring Ozburn-Hessey Logisitcs (OHL) in 2016, GEODIS has seen increased growth in the U.S.

To become eligible to receive an award from GEODIS, a carrier must meet certain criteria based on high efficiency in on time pickup and delivery. The carrier is also judged upon its EDI connectivity and claims settlement performance. Tender acceptance rate is also taken into consideration with an emphasis on productive customer service and customer relationship management.

Once a carrier becomes eligible, by meeting all criteria above, they are evaluated by specific scoring “enhancers” to determine one outstanding carrier. These enhancers include total loads moved, multiple accounts serviced, and performance trend. PITT OHIO was able to meet and exceed all of these scoring enhancers to ensure its selection for carrier of the year.

For the fifth straight year, PITT OHIO has received a Compass Award from the Transportation Marketing & Sales Association. The TMSA is a leading organization dedicated to advancing the success of marketing and sales professionals in the transportation industry. PITT OHIO, Averitt & Customer SalonCentric Recognized with Alliance Award

Pittsburgh, PA (April 26, 2017) – PITT OHIO was presented with its third Alliance Award along with The Reliance Network carrier Averitt Express and customer SalonCentric for achieving goals in reducing environmental waste and improving customer order times.

Given by Logistics Management and SMC3, an industry trade association, The Alliance Award is presented to shippers and their alliance partners that improve supply chain efficiency through innovative practices. Contenders for the award are judged on their use of each alliance partner’s unique strengths and ability to show real world results.

By switching from traditional corrugate to reusable plastic totes, SalonCentric has drastically reduced the amount of disposable waste it puts into its supply chain. To pull it off, Averitt picks up empty totes during deliveries that are then returned to a consolidation point for reuse. The program has reduced supply chain fees associated with corrugate consumption and disposal by $40,000 annually.

“As a result of our tote return program, SalonCentric has been able to keep 325 tons of corrugate out of landfills and recycling facilities across the country annually, which has really been a huge win in helping us accomplish our environmental goals,” said Eric Reddish, SalonCentric’s director of operations.

PITT OHIO and Averitt devised a strategic distribution model of pool points and zone skipping procedures that allows SalonCentric to increase customer order windows by seven hours. The model also enables SalonCentric to save in excess of $50,000 annually in transportation costs.
