PITT OHIO Receives Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Level Gold Encouraging Environmental Excellence Stewardship Award

PITT OHIO Receives Inaugural Supply Chain Sustainability Award from Customer Parker Hannifin

Pittsburgh, PA (November 9, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced it has been awarded a 2022 Supply Chain Sustainability Award from their customer, Parker Hannifin (Parker). The award, the first in Parker’s history, was presented to PITT OHIO in September.

Parker has recently implemented several supply chain initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint, including leveraging sustainable transport methods. To determine PITT OHIO as the recipient of their inaugural Supply Chain Sustainability award, Parker measured continuous improvement ideas, SmartWay Certification, year over year CO2 improvements, and PITT OHIO’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

PITT OHIO Wins 2022 Carnegie Science Center Award

Pittsburgh, PA (October 14, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services, announced today the receipt of a 2022 Carnegie Science Center Award in the Corporate Leadership category. The Carnegie Science Center, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will honor PITT OHIO for their work in creating patented renewable energy-powered, direct current microgrids.

Established in 1997, Carnegie Science Awards have honored the accomplishments of more than 600 scientists, technologists, educators, business leaders, and organizations who are making a difference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and beyond.

PITT OHIO has been on the forefront of patented renewable energy-powered, direct current microgrids. Along with the University of Pittsburgh, WindStax, and other western Pennsylvania providers, PITT OHIO developed a solution for locally produced, clean, renewable energy that is not only more efficient but also gains further efficiency by using that electricity in a direct current system.

PITT OHIO took this proof of concept in Cheswick, Pennsylvania, and created a one-megawatt microgrid in their Cleveland facility. That facility has recently started using two electric Volvo VNR trucks paving the way forward for a cleaner way of delivering freight. The microgrid technology has already received a patent for its innovative approach to combining and storing both solar and wind energy to be used on-demand as needed.

Inbound Logistics referenced PITT OHIO’s the patented process the Company uses with its renewable energy microgrid as a notable achievement. At two of its terminals, PITT OHIO patented a renewable energy microgrid that transfers wind and solar energy into a battery system to generate, store, and consume renewable energy on-site. Excess renewable energy is sent back to the utility when generation exceeds demand, allowing the terminal to function autonomously and indefinitely.

Inbound Logistics also noted PITT OHIO’s efficiency improvements and reduction in carbon emissions in 2021. The Company saw an increase in business as the economy opened up in 2021, but gallons of fuel only went up 4.6% for an estimated savings of over 200,000 gallons of diesel fuel. PITT OHIO accomplished this by utilizing straight trucks over tractors and updating preventive maintenance schedule intervals to ensure vehicles and tires perform optimally. The estimated reduction to oil was 12,000 gallons annually.

PITT OHIO Received 2021 Exemplary Project Award in the Ohio Green Building Challenge

Pittsburgh, PA (June 22, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced today their Cleveland Terminal received the 2021 Green Building Challenge Exemplary Project award from the Go Green Go Cleveland 2030 District.

In partnership with US Green Building Council (USGBC) Ohio’s Northeast Region, Cleveland District 2030 selected PITT OHIO from 21 entries. The PITT OHIO Cleveland terminal is the first trucking facility of its kind in the country designed to run on three sustainable energy resources: geothermal, solar and wind, rather than power sources readily available from utility companies.

With the 96 geothermal wells drilled into the property, the terminal takes advantage of the ground temperature of the earth, a constant 55 degrees, to heat and cool the complex. The eight 60-foot high WindStax energy wind turbines allow the facility to capture and store natural energies generated by wind. Located on the roof, the 1,500 solar panels allow the facility to capture and store energy generated by the sun. Once captured and combined, these renewable energy resources allow the facility to be self-sufficient.

The power generated from these renewable energies is run through these three systems, which then goes into a diverter where it is transferred to an immense battery storage room, and finally goes back to the main distribution panels that run the facility. “The system is projected to generate enough electricity annually to power a community of 50 average US households and offset 421 tons of carbon monoxide,” said Jim Maug, Director Building Maintenance and Property Management.

“The magnitude of a project like this is tremendous,” said Jim Fields, PITT OHIO’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are just grateful to all of the extremely talented people and the support of our ownership, the architect, the contractors and the construction workers who delivered us such an innovative and unique property. The Cleveland Terminal will provide us the flexibility to serve our customers for many years to come.”

PITT OHIO Named 2021 LTL Carrier of the Year by Roppe Holding Company

Roppe Holding Company is the parent company to commercial flooring leaders Roppe and Flexco.

PITT OHIO was selected from among Roppe’s base of trucking carriers using key metrics to evaluate carrier performance, which are reviewed on an annual basis. Key metrics revolve around on time pick up/delivery performance and issue resolution regarding damage/loss/service claims. Consideration for customer service performance, which includes local/regional/national sales interactions and pricing are also evaluated.

PITT OHIO Named 2021 LTL Regional Carrier of the Year by GlobalTranz

Pittsburgh, PA (March 18, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced today the receipt of the 2021 LTL Regional Carrier of the Year award from its customer GlobalTranz, a Worldwide Express company. GlobalTranz provides supply chain management and logistics services to leading companies around the world.

GlobalTranz carrier awards are based on financial performance, growth, customer service, collaboration, technological innovation, and overall excellence.

Forbes Names PITT OHIO One of America’s Best Midsize Employers

Pittsburgh, PA (March 11, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services has been named among America's Best Employers by Forbes Magazine for the second time, ranking number 403 out of the 500 companies listed.

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to compile the list by surveying 60,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. Participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, and to nominate organizations other than their own. The final list ranks the 500 large and 500 midsize employers that received the most recommendations.

PITT OHIO Named 2021 Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking

Pittsburgh, PA (January 18, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, was honored as a 2021 Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking (HDT) Magazine, a leading trucking trade publication that provides the latest news and insights to supply chain professionals, for the third time.

HDT’s editors each year choose 20 or more fleets that are showing leadership in sustainability, based on fleet submissions as well as their own reporting throughout the year. Some of the ways these fleets are heading up the green revolution include electric vehicles, alternative fuels, excellent fuel mileage, freight efficiency, and green facilities. Initiatives in the past year are given more weight. The editors also look at a willingness to share their experiences with other fleets to help the entire industry be greener.
