Pittsburgh, PA (October 13, 2023) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced it has been awarded a 2023 Supply Chain Sustainability Award from their customer, Parker Hannifin (Parker). The award, PITT OHIO’s second in as many years, was presented to PITT OHIO in September.

Parker has recently implemented several supply chain initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint, including leveraging sustainable transport methods. To determine PITT OHIO as the recipient of their Supply Chain Sustainability award, Parker measured continuous improvement ideas, SmartWay Certification, year over year CO2 improvements, and PITT OHIO’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

PITT OHIO Receives 2nd Encouraging Environmental Excellence Gold Level Award from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Pittsburgh, PA (September 25, 2023) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced today the Company received its second Gold Level Encouraging Environmental Excellence Award from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in as many years. PITT OHIO received its award on Monday, September 18 at the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Ohio EPA’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence program recognizes businesses and organizations for completing environmentally beneficial activities and serves as an incentive for organizations to commit to ongoing environmental stewardship. To earn the gold award, a business or organization must have a comprehensive environmental stewardship program, go beyond regulatory compliance requirements, and complete environmental stewardship activities that reduce waste and improve environmental performance.

The goal of environmental stewardship is to reduce the impact of business or organizational activities on the environment beyond measures required by any permit or rule, producing a better environment, conserving natural resources and resulting in long-term economic benefits.

“We are grateful to the OHIO EPA for recognizing PITT OHIO with this stewardship award,” said Justine Russo, Director of Sustainability and Business Intelligence at PITT OHIO. “Receiving an award such as this from the EPA is a testament to the innovative manner in which our entire organization approaches sustainability.”

PITT OHIO recognized how miles per gallon directly impacts the company’s carbon emissions and therefore put more emphasis on improving miles per gallon through preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, and driver training. “All of our drivers’ efforts while on the street are individually monitored daily, so can they see the previous days results of optimizing fuel efficiency (miles per gallon and idling),” said Justine Russo, Director of Sustainability and Business Intelligence at PITT OHIO.

Employees regularly participate in training initiatives about recycling and other ways to help the planet. On site in Cleveland, the company uses separate recycle bins for employees to discard used cardboard, paper products and scrap metals.

“Sustainability is a team effort throughout our company,” Russo, continued. “Our goal is to continue to educate our workforce while stressing to all employees that even the little things we currently do now for the environment regardless if we are at work or at home will make a big impact on helping save the planet over time and that is why the company invests in sustainability.”

Pittsburgh, PA (August 14, 2023) - PITT OHIO announced today the receipt of a Logistics Management Quest for Quality Award. The Quest for Quality Awards are the gold standard for customer satisfaction and performance excellence for carriers, ports, and logistics providers worldwide.

For the twenty-ninth time, PITT OHIO has earned a spot in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regional LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) category.

PITT OHIO Drivers to Compete at ATA National Truck Driving Championship

Pittsburgh, PA (August 2, 2023) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced they will be sending two (2) of its drivers to compete at the American Trucking Associations National Truck & Step Driving Championships. The competition, recognizing the safest drivers in the country, will take place August 16-19 in Columbus, Ohio.

PITT OHIO’s safety program is highly regarded within the industry. A recipient of the President’s Trophy 7 times and multiple awards in states covering the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions, the company’s commitment to safety both on and off the road has prepared these drivers well for the qualifying state competition and the National Championship. Thirty-two PITT OHIO drivers competed at the state level to qualify for nationals; 2 qualified by placing 1^st in their respective categories.

Maryland

Mike Miltenberger, from the company’s Cumberland terminal, finished in first place in the 5-Axle category and attained the highest score among all competitors, earning him the Grand Champion award. This will be Mike’s fifth time competing on the national stage. Miltenberger said, “This year will be my fifth time competing in the National Truck Driving Championships. I look forward to the competition every year, it’s not all about winning even though it’s on the top of the list! The friendships that are made among the best of the best usually out last the glory of winning. I have made new friends every year and we stay in touch! It’s amazing to be able to compete against some of the best drivers in the nation! I would like to thank Chuck Hammel for giving us the opportunity to represent PITT OHIO in the Super-bowl of the Truck Driving Championships!

West Virginia

Alex Atkins, from the company’s Charleston terminal, finished in first place in the Straight Truck category. This is Alex’s first time competing at Nationals. “I am very excited for my first appearance at Nationals. Doing this job safely is important to me, so I’m grateful that PITT OHIO puts such an emphasis on training and making sure we adhere to every mandate. I also appreciate the PITT OHIO Safety Department for helping me to train for the national competition. I will do my best to make PITT OHIO proud.”

The Truck Driving Championships, a 3-day competition, is an opportunity for professional truck drivers to demonstrate their driving skills and safety expertise. The event includes a difficult driving-skills challenge, pre-trip inspection and written examination covering vehicle operation and knowledge of federal safety regulations.

Uber Freight Names PITT OHIO Regional LTL Carrier of the Year

Selection for these awards was based on quantitative performance data, including factors related to customer service. PITT OHIO Named 2023 Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking

Pittsburgh, PA (July 7, 2023) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, was honored as a 2023 Top Green Fleet by Heavy Duty Trucking (HDT) Magazine, a leading trucking trade publication that provides the latest news and insights to supply chain professionals, for the fourth time. Ryan Lisek, Program Director at Drive Clean Indiana, nominated PITT OHIO.

HDT’s editors review the nominations each year and choose 20 or more fleets that are showing leadership in sustainability, based on fleet submissions as well as their own reporting throughout the year. Some of the ways these fleets are heading up the green revolution include electric vehicles, alternative fuels, excellent fuel mileage, freight efficiency, and green facilities. Initiatives in the past year are given more weight. The editors also look at a willingness to share their experiences with other fleets to help the entire industry be greener.

According to Lisek, “PITT OHIO has been a logistics leader in sustainable initiatives for over 40 years. Drive Clean Indiana, Indiana’s only Department of Energy Clean Cities Coalition in the state of Indiana, was happy to nominate PITT OHIO for the HDT-Top Green Fleet Award. Drive Clean Indiana and PITT OHIO partnered on an EPA National DERA Project, “Midwest Climate Emission Reduction Initiative” in 2021 and were awarded funding for three all-electric box trucks at the Parma, OH terminal. PITT OHIO stands out as a frontrunner among fleets across America due to its exemplary efforts in decarbonizing its operations.

In addition to the electric truck deployments, the Parma Terminal is a LEED-certified building that encompasses solar panels and wind turbines that produce 540,000 kWh of renewable energy. This renewable energy can be stored onsite in the 1 MW microgrid. Forbes Names PITT OHIO One of America’s Best Midsize Employers

The contest, sponsored by Great West Casualty Company, recognizes those companies in various mileage classes with the lowest accident frequency rate. PITT OHIO also received the Grand Champion award for having the lowest accident frequency rate among all winners.

PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Safety, Jeff Mercadante, said, “I would like to congratulate the Maryland drivers for winning this prestigious award.
