PITT OHIO Relocates Toledo, Ohio Terminal to Monroe, Michigan

Pittsburgh, PA (September 16, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services and sustainability in the transportation industry, announced today the relocation of its Toledo, Ohio motor freight terminal to a larger, renovated facility in Monroe, Michigan.

The completely renovated terminal building is nearly 129,000 square feet. It includes a 12,760 office building and 160 dock doors, a gain of 108 from its previous location. Also on the complex is a nearly 20,0000 square foot 7-bay vehicle maintenance building and a new fueling island and tank. In line with the company's commitment to sustainability, the renovations incorporated post-consumer recycled materials.

“We are excited to announce the relocation of our Toledo terminal to a larger, renovated facility in Monroe, Michigan,” said Brad Caven, PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Operations. This move, just 20 miles from our previous location, will significantly enhance our shipping capacity and better serve our customers in Toledo and Southwest Michigan. The new terminal not only meets PITT OHIO’s high sustainability standards but also provides a fantastic work environment for our dedicated employees. This change is a testament to our commitment to growth, excellence, and employee satisfaction.”

The new address will be 1800 Frenchtown Center Drive in Monroe, Michigan, 20 miles from its previous location in Toledo.

PITT OHIO Driver To Compete at ATA National Truck Driving Championships

Pittsburgh, PA (August 9, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced they will be sending one of its drivers to compete at the American Trucking Associations National Truck & Step Driving Championships. The competition, recognizing the safest drivers in the country, will take place August 21-24 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Thirty-two PITT OHIO drivers competed at the state level to qualify for nationals; Mike Miltenberger from PITT OHIO’s Cumberland, Maryland terminal qualified by placing 1^st in the 5-axle category. Miltenberger also earned the Maryland Grand Champion title, awarded to the driver attaining the highest score among all competitions. This will be Mike’s sixth time competing on the national stage.

Miltenberger said, “I believe in the power of a positive attitude to drive success. That’s why I strive for excellence in everything I do. Representing PITT OHIO at the NTDC is an incredible honor and a testament to our company’s commitment to safety. I’m proud to be part of a team with such a strong safety record, supported by a dedicated department providing drivers with the tools needed to excel.”

The Truck Driving Championships, a 3-day competition, is an opportunity for professional truck drivers to demonstrate their driving skills and safety expertise. The event includes a difficult driving-skills challenge, pre-trip inspection and written examination covering vehicle operation and knowledge of federal safety regulations.

PITT OHIO’s safety program is highly regarded within the industry. A recipient of the President’s Trophy 7 times and multiple awards in states covering the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions, the company’s commitment to safety both on and off the road prepares its drivers well for the qualifying state competition and the National Championship.

Pittsburgh, PA (June 4, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services and sustainability in the transportation industry, announced today the relocation of its Buffalo, New York motor freight terminal to a larger, renovated facility.

The completely renovated terminal building is 22,285 square feet. It also includes 56 dock doors, a gain of 38 from its previous location. Also on the complex is a 7,200 square foot 2-bay vehicle maintenance building, a new fueling island and tank, and a 3,380 square foot office building. In line with the company's commitment to sustainability, the renovations incorporated post-consumer recycled materials.

"With this new facility, we're not just growing our capacity for customers, but also creating a world-class work environment for our amazing team,” said Brad Caven, PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Operations. “This means happier, more engaged employees, ready to deliver exceptional service to our customers in this market."

The new address will be 6640 Transit Road in Williamsville, 6 miles from its previous location.

Sustainability Leader PITT OHIO Breaks New Ground with EDI Integration for Scope 3 Emissions Data on LTL Invoices

Pittsburgh, PA (April 25, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services and sustainability in the transportation industry, announced today a new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solution for less-than truckload (LTL) invoices, empowering customers to access their unique Scope 3 emissions data.

PITT OHIO’s EVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Geoff Muessig, said, “PITT OHIO has long been a leader in providing estimates of carbon emissions from LTL shipments through our patented CO2 Track reports. Now, we are taking transparency to the next level by offering customers the ability to receive emissions data directly on their invoices via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).”

PITT OHIO’s patented carbon emissions calculation apportions an amount of fuel per shipment for the pickup, linehaul, and delivery. “This breakthrough methodology goes beyond other calculations by estimating emissions based on how freight moves through the PITT OHIO network and the portion of the truck the freight used,” Muessig continued.

Emissions from distribution and transportation of goods fall under Scope 3 Category 9 of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Scope 3 emissions have become a hot topic for business as regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the European Union and California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253). While each of these initiatives have different timeframes and requirements for businesses to follow, together they signal a change where carbon emissions tracking will be essential across the supply chain. Emissions from medium and heavy-duty trucks represent over 20% of transportation emissions. Reducing these emissions will be a necessary part of any company’s Net Zero goals.

PITT OHIO Announced as 2024 CIO 100 Award Winner

PITT OHIO Begins Operation of Two Freightliner Electric Trucks in Ohio

Pittsburgh, PA (March 14, 2024) - PITT OHIO — a leader in transportation, warehouse, and logistics services — announced the addition of two Class 7 Freightliner® electric box trucks to its Cleveland, Ohio fleet. The 26-foot battery electric eM2 box trucks will be operated out of PITT OHIO’s Cleveland terminal as part of its LTL freight shipping business. The charger is part of PITT OHIO’s overall electrical system, which includes their patented renewable energy microgrid that is powered by on-site solar and wind.

The Freightliner® eM2 delivers nimble performance and capability in its emissions-free package. The eM2 electric trucks feature 255 continuous horsepower and a 250-mile range. Perfectly designed for local and regional delivery routes in the greater Cleveland area, the emissions-free and highly maneuverable Class 7 trucks have 291 kWh battery capacity and can be recharged at PITT OHIO’s facility in Parma, Ohio within 60 minutes time (80%).

Morgan Truck Body was pleased to collaborate with PITT OHIO to provide an innovative lightweight body utilizing structural composite foam core panel walls, an aluminum subframe, and an encapsulated hardwood floor with anti-slip surface. The body is up to 40% lighter than traditional truck bodies to increase available payload capacity.

PITT OHIO’s Cleveland terminal is home to a patented renewable energy microgrid that is powered by eight wind turbines and 1,500 solar panels, providing up to 68 megawatts of annual energy.

PITT OHIO Receives Patent for Carbon Emissions Calculations

Pittsburgh, PA (February 27, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services and sustainability in the transportation industry, announced today the receipt of a patent for the process developed to estimate emissions both as a company and at the shipment level. This process enables shippers to receive Scope 3 emission reports for their own carbon tracking. The initial work to audit carbon emissions was developed in collaboration with Dr. Robert Sroufe who is also named on the patent.

Scope 3 emissions have become a hot topic for business as regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) from the European Union, the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s new Climate Disclosure Proposal, and California’s Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act (SB 253). While each of these initiatives have different timeframes and requirements for businesses to follow, together they signal a change where carbon emissions tracking will be essential to understand across the supply chain.

PITT OHIO has been a leader in providing an estimate of carbon emissions from less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments for over 10 years with CO2 Track reports which are available as self-service online, set up as a scheduled report, or sent via EDI or API. Carbon emissions tracking via invoices will be available before the end of the first quarter of 2024.

“Scope 3 emission tracking is a significant undertaking for many businesses and PITT OHIO is available to collaborate with our customers to provide emissions data in a format that is best for them,” said Justine Russo, PITT OHIO’s Director of Sustainability and Business Intelligence. “Reporting is only one part of our commitment to sustainability, but it is a way we can directly affect our customers in support of their sustainability goals.”

PITT OHIO Fuels the Future of Skilled Labor with Equipment Donation to Forbes Road CTC

Pittsburgh, PA (January 30, 2024) - PITT OHIO, a leader in regional and national logistics services, donated a 2018 Mack tractor to Forbes Road Career and Technology Center (CTC) in Monroeville, PA, strengthening their commitment to training the next generation of diesel technicians through hands-on learning.

In today's competitive job market, practical experience is more valuable than ever. Recognizing this, logistics leader PITT OHIO has partnered with Forbes Road CTC to offer a unique cooperative education program. This dynamic initiative blends classroom-based learning with hands-on experience, giving students a head start on their careers.

“The future of skilled labor is in hands-on learning opportunities to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in demanding fields such as diesel mechanics,” said Taki Darakos, PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Vehicle Maintenance. “This real-world exposure with our Mack tractor will not only enhance the students' theoretical knowledge, but also prepare them for the challenges and rewards of a career in diesel mechanics.”

“The need for highly trained and skilled diesel technicians is more critical than ever,” said Larry Maun, PITT OHIO’s Supervisor of Fleet Training & Development. “It is crucial to the success of PITT OHIO’s diesel mechanic shops to work with and develop the next generation of technicians and students from these types of programs who are motivated, hardworking and want to learn the trade.”

“Over the last 20-30 years Vocational Technical programs have not received the attention or funding necessary to keep up with the technology changes on today’s medium and heavy-duty trucks,” Darakos continued. “This truck will help afford the students an opportunity to bring today’s emissions and electrical systems into their classroom. What they learn will be relevant to what they will see when they graduate and enter the workforce. It is the industries responsibility to help make this happen and at PITT OHIO, we are trying to do our part.”

PITT OHIO partners with numerous cooperative learning programs across the region, providing students with valuable experience working alongside seasoned professionals at PITT OHIO facilities. Students get to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, develop essential skills, and build their professional network. Three of the five students hired are from Forbes Road CTC. Alumni of the co-op program, Owen Templer, Seth Spisak and Tyler Ogilee completed mechanical repairs, cosmetic updates, and body repairs, in addition to detailing the tractor before it was donated. “It’s awesome to see Seth, Owen and Tyler give back to where they started - Forbes Road Career and Technology Center,” Maun continued.

Dominic Deluca, an instructor at Forbes Road CTC, said, “I’m grateful in many ways. I’ve worked hard over the years to keep the program current with industry standards. This is a huge win for students to understand the latest technologies within the medium/heavy truck and equipment industry. One must change with technology, and this will be a big change for both students and instructor.”

The donated Mack tractor is valued at $30,000.00 and will serve as a valuable training tool, providing students with firsthand experience in:

Diagnosing and repairing complex engine systems
Performing routine maintenance tasks
Gaining familiarity with advanced truck technology
