PITT OHIO Receives US EPA 2016 SmartWay Award

Award Recipients are Top Environmental Performers and Leaders for Freight Supply Chain Efficiency

Pittsburgh, PA (October 4, 2016) - PITT OHIO was honored with a SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a true industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. PITT OHIO Reduced carbon emissions per shipment in 2016 by 1.2% and by 4.7% over the past 4 years; Implemented 20 CNG tractors; Reduced kilowatts at existing buildings by 3.4%; And reduced kilowatts per square foot at upgraded buildings by 35%.

PITT OHIO´s Chief Marketing Officer Geoff Muessig, said, "PITT OHIO is honored to be recognized as the 2016 EPA Smartway carrier of the year. We are focused on using our sustainability initiatives to become a more efficient transportation company that generates fewer carbon emissions on a per shipment basis. Our sustainability strategy enables PITT OHIO to create more value for our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate."

PITT OHIO was one of 43 truck carriers to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay´s 3500 Partners. The carrier Excellence Awardees were honored at the American Trucking Associations Annual Management Conference & Exhibition held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 3, 2016.

"As the SmartWay program completes its 12th year, EPA recognizes its top Carrier Partners for their commitment to an efficient and environmentally responsible freight transportation supply chain,” said Christopher Grundler, EPA’s Office Director of Transportation & Air Quality Christopher Grundler. “We all depend on the freight sector, and these award-winning SmartWay carriers have demonstrated that it is possible to complete in this space while placing an emphasis on environmental integrity, allowing for reduced fuel costs which increase revenue while also lowering greenhouse gas emissions."

PITT OHIO WINS 2015 Ohio Trucking Association Fleet Safety Award

Pittsburgh, PA (September 20, 2016) - PITT OHIO wins 2015 Ohio Trucking Association (OTA) Fleet Safety Award for the Large Division, Over 20 Million Mile Category. Plaques were presented by the OTA and Great West Casualty Company at the Annual Conference Awards Dinner on Monday, September 19.

Fleet safety awards are presented to trucking companies that have the lowest accident rates per million miles traveled within Ohio, but who also demonstrate significant community involvement and make contributions to overall truck safety in the state. The awards are co-sponsored by Great West Casualty Company.

PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Safety, Jeff Mercadante, said, "I would like to congratulate the Ohio drivers for winning first place in the Ohio Motor Truck Safety contest. This is an outstanding accomplishment that reflects the type of drivers we have at PITT OHIO. We are proud to recognize the drivers and what they do every day keeping our highways safer."

OTA is a nonprofit, full-service trade association formed to promote and protect the interests of the trucking industry in Ohio. Membership includes over 800 company members, including both Ohio-based and non-domiciled carriers, and their suppliers.

PITT OHIO Driver Charles Randolph Named Straight Truck National Champion

Pittsburgh, PA (August 16th, 2016) - PITT OHIO Straight Truck Driver Charles Randolph placed first in his class at the 2016 American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) National Truck Driving Championships in Indianapolis, IN.

To clinch the prestigious title of Straight Truck Champion, Randolph’s driving skills and knowledge of transportation and truck safety surpassed those of the 49 other professional straight truck drivers competing last week, August 10-13 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

After qualifying at states in the Tanker Class, PITT OHIO Driver Nick Backes from the company’s Charleston, WV terminal also competed at Nationals placing 5th among 49 other drivers.

"It takes a lot of courage as well as a strong commitment to study, practice and prepare to compete on a state and national level alongside only the best drivers in the trucking industry. We were proud to have had two drivers, Randolph and Backes, compete at Nationals this year," said Ron Uriah, VP of Risk Management Compliance Government Affairs at PITT OHIO. "We are proud of all of our drivers who competed for showcasing their skill and talent on a state and national level for all of America to see. We appreciate the devotion to their profession and the recognition they bring to PITT OHIO for all of our employees. We also want to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers that help to make the program at PITT OHIO successful."

Vice President of Safety at PITT OHIO, Jeff Mercadante said, "I would like to congratulate Randolph and Backes for their accomplishments at the ATA National Truck Driving Championships. Both competed against the very best drivers in the industry. Their hard work, knowledge and skill allowed them to finish at the top. We are very proud of Randolph and Bakes and appreciate everything they do for PITT OHIO and making our roads safer.

"I was honored to compete and represent PITT OHIO at the national competition," Charles Randolph said. "I was extremely excited to win but even more excited to make it that far with my fellow PITT OHIO driver Nick Backes. Randolph resides in Belle, WV and has been driving for PITT OHIO at its Charleston, WV terminal for 28 years. Backes resides in Hurricane, WV and has been driving for PITT OHIO at its Charleston, WV terminal for 6 years.

PITT OHIO Wins Two 2016 Quest for Quality Awards

Regional Leader Receives Northeast LTL and Expedite Honors

Pittsburgh, PA (August 11th, 2016) - PITT OHIO wins Logistics Management Magazine’s Quest for Quality Award in the Regional Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) Northeast category and the Expedite category among national carriers. PITT OHIO has earned a spot for the 22nd time in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regional LTL category and tenth time overall on the Expedite list.

The results, according to the magazine, align with what many analysts believe to be true – that the top regional carriers like PITT OHIO have managed to deliver world-class service despite the mounting operational challenges over the past 12 months. 2016 marks the eleventh year in a row that PITT OHIO has earned a spot on the regional LTL Quest for Quality list.

"Our customers tell us they value consistency more than anything else and we consider these awards from our customers to be the definitive endorsement of our performance and commitment to deliver reliable and consistent service," Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at PITT OHIO, Geoff Muessig said. The Quest for Quality Awards are voted on by readers of Logistics Management magazine and are regarded as one of the most important measures of customer satisfaction and performance excellence. Recipients have received the "ultimate vote of confidence," with winners posting the highest scores in the various criteria. The five criteria are on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service, and equipment and operations.

These 2016 awards bring PITT OHIO’s overall grand total to 35 Quest for Quality Awards in the categories of Regional LTL, National LTL, Expedited and Truckload.
