PITT OHIO Driver Charles Randolph Named Straight Truck National Champion

Pittsburgh, PA (August 16th, 2016) - PITT OHIO Straight Truck Driver Charles Randolph placed first in his class at the 2016 American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) National Truck Driving Championships in Indianapolis, IN.

To clinch the prestigious title of Straight Truck Champion, Randolph’s driving skills and knowledge of transportation and truck safety surpassed those of the 49 other professional straight truck drivers competing last week, August 10-13 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

After qualifying at states in the Tanker Class, PITT OHIO Driver Nick Backes from the company’s Charleston, WV terminal also competed at Nationals placing 5th among 49 other drivers.

"It takes a lot of courage as well as a strong commitment to study, practice and prepare to compete on a state and national level alongside only the best drivers in the trucking industry. We were proud to have had two drivers, Randolph and Backes, compete at Nationals this year," said Ron Uriah, VP of Risk Management Compliance Government Affairs at PITT OHIO. "We are proud of all of our drivers who competed for showcasing their skill and talent on a state and national level for all of America to see. We appreciate the devotion to their profession and the recognition they bring to PITT OHIO for all of our employees. We also want to acknowledge and thank the many volunteers that help to make the program at PITT OHIO successful."

Vice President of Safety at PITT OHIO, Jeff Mercadante said, "I would like to congratulate Randolph and Backes for their accomplishments at the ATA National Truck Driving Championships. Both competed against the very best drivers in the industry. Their hard work, knowledge and skill allowed them to finish at the top. We are very proud of Randolph and Bakes and appreciate everything they do for PITT OHIO and making our roads safer.

"I was honored to compete and represent PITT OHIO at the national competition," Charles Randolph said. "I was extremely excited to win but even more excited to make it that far with my fellow PITT OHIO driver Nick Backes. Randolph resides in Belle, WV and has been driving for PITT OHIO at its Charleston, WV terminal for 28 years. Backes resides in Hurricane, WV and has been driving for PITT OHIO at its Charleston, WV terminal for 6 years.
