An integral part of our sustainability strategy is our commitment to doing our best to achieve environmental and social responsibility.  We understand the nature of our business and the impact we have on our communities, our customers, and the environment. 

While most organizations look at sustainability through the People Planet Profit lens, we have decided to focus on Purpose as our third P with our sustainability strategy.  Therefore, our commitment to People, Planet, and Purpose serves as the foundation for our corporate sustainability initiatives.  These three P’s work together to shape PITT OHIO’s sustainability strategy, connecting our purpose to everything we do.  We believe in being good corporate citizens and giving back by aligning ourselves with organizations who share our same approach and commitment to improving sustainability for future generations.

People

Core beliefs have been passed down from generation to generation, creating a team environment where our employees feel respected and appreciated.  Employees are our most valuable resource and serve as the backbone to our culture. The culture at PITT OHIO is built around our employees and a companywide goal of developing a reputation for delivering unmatched customer service.  From day one we have remained committed to developing a diverse, engaged, safe, and well-trained workforce.

Planet

As our business grows, the miles driven by PITT OHIO trucks also increases.  Our commitment to renewable energy, fuel efficiency and our planet as a whole is more critical than ever to reducing our carbon output.  Our green fleet management practices start with maintaining and operating a modern fleet, and centers around improving vehicle practices with our drivers through training. 

New construction projects are designed to meet certain sustainability standards in water, energy, and material usage efficiency to reach LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification levels.  To date, PITT OHIO has 5 buildings that achieved LEED status. We’re proud to be an early adopter of advanced Distributed Energy Resources using renewable energy at our terminals to help achieve our sustainability goals. Two of our terminal buildings are equipped with a renewable energy powered microgrid.  In collaboration with WindStax Energy, our renewable energy powered microgrid uses a patented, groundbreaking process that takes wind and solar energy into a battery system and the subsequent distribution of that power to points of use.  PITT OHIO received a patent for this process in 2020. 

Purpose

Purpose is creating innovative solutions for our customers and internal efficiencies in our business while also maintaining a strong public image through support of the less fortunate, social responsibility, and safety of the people with whom we share the road.
