PITT OHIO Salutes Our Veterans

Pittsburgh, PA (November 11, 2022) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, is pausing today, November 11 to honor the veterans and members of the U.S. military who sacrifice to serve their country and protect our freedoms.

PITT OHIO has supported military service members and veterans since its opening in 1979. Today the Company employs more than 295 Veteran employees, nearly 9% of its workforce, working in a variety of roles across its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Midwest regions.

PITT OHIO’s Battle Creek Driver, Frank Geer said, “Like the military, we have a mission.  It takes teamwork to accomplish that mission.  PITT OHIO is a great team and like the military, you will have lifelong friends.”

Albert Bell, a driver in Cleveland, said, “I respect how PITT OHIO honors Veterans and those still serving.  PITT OHIO is committed to their employees and customers and to creating a nice work environment.  My time as a Seaman in the Navy prepared me for the delegation of the workload and how the whole team performs their task with precision.”

Cleveland Driver Charles Brown said, “When I was in the Navy, following rules, working above the standard, wearing a uniform every day, and of course, treating each other with respect were all important parts of military service.  It is also what you can expect at PITT OHIO.  I love truck driving.  I plan to retire from PITT OHIO.”

Hazleton Driver Dan Kimmel said, “I love working for PITT OHIO, it is like family. I was on leave from the military when I was hired at PITT OHIO, which has been my only job outside of the military.  I’m thankful for the opportunity to go through the advancement program.  I started as a dockworker and have advanced all the way to a Class A Driver.”

Brad Werley, Cleveland Driver, said, “I like the freedom and independence that comes with truck driving and enjoy traveling from place to place.  I met some great people during my time in the military and the same is true when I started working at PITT OHIO in 1999.  PITT OHIO has great people, great support and great relationships between co-workers.”

Terrence Simon, Cleveland driver said, “Being a truck driver is rewarding and challenging.  Much like my service in the military.  I appreciate the teamwork we have at our terminal, something I also enjoyed during my time in the Marine Corps.”

PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Operations Brad Caven said, “Working in the trucking industry requires hard work and a commitment to safety.  We admire and appreciate the leadership, teamwork, accountability and discipline members of the military bring to our Company. We are grateful for the sacrifice that all of our veterans and their family members have made, and want to acknowledge and thank them for their service. PITT OHIO is proud of our employees and committed to maintaining our strong practices of hiring and retaining service members.”

Moving forward, PITT OHIO will increase its efforts and programs to recruit, develop and retain our nation's heroes to help build its business.  In seven years’ time, PITT OHIO employees have raised and donated over $27,000 to the Fisher House Foundation.  A non-profit providing a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.
