PITT OHIO Salutes Veterans
Pittsburgh, PA (November 8th, 2013) - PITT OHIO and its employees will pause to honor the veterans and members of the U.S. military who sacrifice to serve their country and protect our freedoms.
PITT OHIO has supported military service members and veterans since its opening in 1979. Today the Company employs more than 210 veterans, about 8% of its workforce, working in a variety of roles across its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. A number PITT OHIO hopes to increase. "Our company is as strong as the workforce we employ," saidChuck Hammel, President of PITT OHIO. "Members of the military have a well-earned reputation for leadership, teamwork, accountability and discipline. We look for this type of work ethic and commitment in our employees."
Mike Todd, Veteran Military Police Officer in the Army and Terminal Manager at the company´s Cleveland terminal, said, "I am very proud to be a military veteran and it is an honor to work for such a great company that supports military service men and women. Dave Powell, a dockworker at the time, was deployed to Iraq in 2008. "PITT OHIO was very supportive when I was deployed with the Army," Powell, Veteran and now Manager of Employee Development & Retention at PITT OHIO, said. "During this difficult time, PITT OHIO did everything possible to make the transition as easy as possible for my family and me. Upon returning home, PITT OHIO allowed me the opportunity to not only return to my position as a dockworker, but move up within in the company as well. PITT OHIO is a great place for veterans to work."
ECM TRANSPORT, the carrier powering PITT OHIO’s TRUCKLOAD service and US Cargo, a carrier within PITT OHIO´s GROUND service network will also participate on November 11. As a way to remember and honor our nation’s veterans and those who continue to serve, magnetic flags with the words "Proud to Honor Our Veterans and All Who Serve" will be applied to the doors of the power units in the entire enterprise including PITT OHIO’s 710 tractors, 369 straight trucks, and 37 sprinter vans, ECM TRANSPORT´s 239 tractors and US Cargo´s vehicles. A flag lapel pin will also be provided to each employee.
