PITT OHIO’s Ricky Kahl Named Maryland Truck Driver of the Year

Pittsburgh, PA (March 3, 2023) - PITT OHIO, a leader in transportation, warehouse and logistics services, announced today that its driver, Ricky Kahl, has been selected by the Maryland Police as the states’ Driver of the Year.

On January 26, 2023 PITT OHIO Driver from Cumberland, Maryland, Ricky Kahl, was named the states’ truck driver of the year.  Kahl was one of 12 drivers recognized by Maryland Motor Truck Association as the 2022 Drivers of the Month, with the State Police choosing him from among the 12 winners as the Driver of the Year.

Kahl has driven for 33 years accident free in his career, traveling over 3 million safe miles.  Since 2014, Kahl has served as a driver trainer for the company passing along his skills and insight to new PITT OHIO drivers.

“When I’m not working, I am committed to making my community a better place,” said Kahl.  In 2013 Kahl became a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Shriners Society.  “My involvement in these organizations has given me the opportunity to help many children and families in need of medical assistance. I was able to provide free medical transportation to patients of the Shriner’s Hospital and their families in 2018 and 2021.”

With Shriner’s Hospital, Kahl served as Vice Boss of the Clown Unit.  He took on the position of Boss Clown from 2019-2021 and was responsible for setting up fundraisers for Shriner’s Hospital. “As a member of the Clown Unit, I am able to bring joy to children in the tri-state area with parades, parties and assisting the circus when they are in town,” said Kahl.  “My experience as a truck driver has allowed me the flexibility to be an active member of my community. I am fortunate to have a job as a driver with PITT OHIO who believes so strongly in supporting our communities.”

Kahl enjoys helping children in his community.  He has spoken during career day at local schools, sharing the importance of truck drivers in their community.  He also assisted in coaching a youth bowling league, where he takes great pride in the influence he can make on the future generation to become vital members of our community.  The bowling league gave Kahl the opportunity to teach kids leadership skills and teamwork.

When asked about Ricky Kahl, PITT OHIO’s Senior Safety Specialist, Kevin Matsey, commented on Kahls’ positive attitude, friendly demeanor and professional work ethic. “Rick’s genuine, uplifting attitude resonates well with all of his co-workers and customers,” Matsey said. “He is the type of driver any company would want their employees to emulate.”
